Meret, who played at Serie B squad SPAL on loan from Udinese this season, has proven himself to be one of the young and upcoming goalies in Europe. Being only 20, he’s currently battling Gianluigi Donnarumma for the heir to Buffon’s throne – and some even say he has more talent and skills than the Milan star. Meret has excelled in Serie B, with giant clubs such as Juventus and Napoli rushing to snatch up the young goalkeeper before its too late. This past international break was highlighted for the Azzurri by the young and fresh goalkeepers, and Meret and Donnarumma have been battling it out to be the next great Italian ‘portiere.’ Although teams are running to get his signature, his parent club Udinese is reluctant to sell the young talent. Still, expect president De Laurentiis to make a significant push for his signature.
