The Spanish fantasista, Suso, has now officially renewed his contract with the Rossoneri until 2022.
Since the beginning of last season, the ex-Liverpool man has been one of Montella’s best and most consistent players in the squad, playing on the right wing. This new contract renewal has been in talks for several months now, with the Spaniard officially holding the jersey with “Suso 2022” printed on the back, alongside Marco Fassone and Massimo Mirabelli.
Now, the question is how large of a role Suso will play in this Milan side for the next few years, as now, with a budget and more quality players in the side, the expectations are much higher than they were last season with Montella in charge, and they will keep increasing with Champions League qualification in their sites.
Now, in the ‘3 at the back’ formation Montella is deploying, Suso has been playing as a secondary striker behind Nikola Kalinic, a role that Suso is not used too and isn’t as effective in. The Spaniard is meant to play on the right-wing, thats where Milanisti have seen him succeed and take over matches from that position. Now, it’s up to Montella and the coaching staff to find a formation that suits him, one of the most talented players in this team.
A good suggestion would be the 3-4-3 formation. After an embarrassing loss to Sampdoria in which Milan didn’t register a shot on target, change is needed. If Montella wants to play with 3 defenders in Leonardo Bonucci, Alessio Romagnoli and Mateo Musacchio, the change is needed up front. A 3-4-3 works best, since Franck Kessie and Lucas Biglia can play as a double pivot in the midfield, with a front three of Suso on the right, in his natural position, Nikola Kalinic or Andre Silva as the front man, with Giacomo Bonaventura or Hakan Calhanoglu getting the duties on the left wing. This formation still has the same width as a 3-5-2 with the fullbacks running up and down the flanks, and also gives more room to the wingers like Suso, who is more of a threat in wide areas, cutting in on his left foot.
It’s up to coach Vincenzo Montella to deploy Suso in a position for him to succeed. With a good surrounding cast, this Milan side needs to perform this season especially and need to get their act together quick.
“Il Cardellino” has 2 goals and 2 assists so far in Serie A this season, and is looking to have another strong year stats wise again, as he’s slowly developing into one of the best offensive wingers in Serie A. Especially with the price Adriano Galliani signed him for 2 years back, Suso will continue to be a bargain and hopefully grow into a dynamic, consistent chance generator for the Milano giants, which as of now, looks like he will develop to.
Now making 3 million Euros for year, and a reported buy out clause 50 million Euros, the Spaniard will look to be an influential player for the Rossoneri for years to come, and Milanisti are definitely excited to see the magician at San Siro in the future.
