Miroslav Klose scores his first goals of the season to break Lazio’s winless streak.
Lazio manager Stefano Pioli clearly had Europa League in mind when he set his line up for today’s match. There were plenty of unfamiliar faces in the starting XI, which led to a a slow start by the home side. The game picked up steam in the second half when Keita replaced Kishna.
The capital club broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when Stefano Mauri broke free on a counter attack and was taken out by Atalanta keeper Marco Sportiello. The foul by the keeper jarred the ball loose, which fell to Klose who calmly slotted the ball into the open net.
Lazio had to wait until the very last minute of the game before scoring next. Felipe Anderson took a deflection from his own area all the way down the pitch to the opponent’s goal, where he then drew in the keeper before laying the ball to Klose.
Klose spoke to Premium Sport immediately following the match and provided his account of the game.
“It was important that we showed that we can play as a team. Many different players started today that have not had room to play. I am satisfied. Only by working can we obtain optimal results.
Europa League? We want to reach the quarterfinals. We will fight until the end.”
