AC Milan trump Palermo by the scoreline of 4-0 at San Siro thanks to goals from Suso, Pasalic, Bacca and Deulofeu.
Here is how we rated the individual performances of the Rossoneri Sunday.
Gianluigi Donnarumma (7.0): Although he was seldom tested, Gianluigi Donnarumma will surely take his 11th clean-sheet into next week’s big Derby with Inter.
Davide Calabria (8.0): The Italy U-21 fullback shined out on the right-flank. Whipping in his share of crosses, Calabria delivered a peach into Bacca who headed home the third goal. A much needed performance from the youngster who hopes to continue receiving substantial minutes.
Cristian Zapata (7.0): The Colombian turned in a strong outing alongside Romagnoli, pushing forward and working his way into the buildup from the back. Paletta remains the preferred vice-Romagnoli, but having Zapata playing well is a major plus as we enter the final stretch of the season.
Alessio Romagnoli (7.0): Once again, Milan’s playmaking defender showed his strengths today in the 4-0 trouncing of Palermo. Kept play organized and tidy in the back throughout.
Mattia De Sciglio (7.5): Amid links to a Juventus move in the summer, De Sciglio continues to show his worth for the Rossoneri. Wearing the captain’s armband, De Sciglio once again demonstrated his ability to play solid football on both ends of the pitch.
Juraj Kucka (7.5): The Slovakian closed out a solid performance today v Palermo by getting much more involved in the attacking phase and testing the keeper. With Pasalic suspended for next week’s Derby with Inter, Montella will likely slot Kucka back into his XI, as the muscle will be needed.
Jose Sosa (7.0): Many have been calling for Locatelli to start, but right now, Sosa is stepping up. Dictating play from the regista role, the ex-Besiktas man should be penciled in to start next week versus Inter.
Mario Pasalic (7.0): The Croatian did pick up a yellow on a vicious challenge, thus ruling him out for Derby Milano. As for today, Pasalic added a goal to his name and with that, continues to prove his initial critics wrong by rising to the occasion.
Suso (8.0) MOTM: In his return to the lineup, Suso dazzled in front of the home crowd at San Siro. A beautifully-taken free kick opened the scoring, and from there, the Spaniard picked up right where he left off in his breakout campaign. He also provided the assist on Pasalic’s goal. By having Suso back and ready to go on the right-hand side, Milan must fancy their chances next Saturday v Inter.
Carlos Bacca (7.0): Despite spoiling a few chances, Bacca grabbed his 12th goal of the season and since turned it on after fans called for his benching. Not to mention, his involvement in the build-up which led to Deulofeu earning the free kick for Suso to bury proves he is working hard to adapt. Milan will however need him to take his chances next week.
Gerard Deulofeu (8.0): It’s been some week for the Everton loanee. Welcoming his newborn to the world, Deulofeu went back and forth in one-upping his countryman Suso, making blistering runs and curling in his second in a Milan shirt. By having the two Spaniards flanking Bacca, this is as good as any attack Milan will field for the remainder of the season.
Manuel Locatelli (6.5): It was a nice 30 minute performance from the teenager as he came on for Sosa in the second half. Fans are a bit worried that Locatelli isn’t receiving enough time, so this demo today should hopefully erase some concern. His passing was crisp and he dictated play at the base of the midfield.
Luca Antonelli (n/a): The player did not get onto the ball enough to make a proper assessment.
Gianluca Lapadula (n/a): An appeal for a penalty late after nice combination play with Bacca was the only bit of action Lapadula saw.
