Alberico Evani has taken over Italy U-21 duties from Luigi Di Biagio who is currently the interim boss for the Azzurri’s senior side. Here are the latest call-ups for the Azzurrini.

Evani has summoned 24 in total for Italy’s upcoming matches with Norway (22 March in Perugia) and Serbia (27 March in Novi Sad).

Goalkeepers: Emil Audero (Venezia, on loan from Juventus), Alex Meret (SPAL), Simone Scuffet (Udinese)

Defenders: Davide Calabria (AC Milan), Elio Capradossi (Rome), Lorenzo Dickmann (Novara), Gianluca Mancini (Atalanta), Raoul Petretta (Basel), Giuseppe Pezzella (Udinese), Filippo Romagna (Cagliari), Marco Varnier (Cittadella)

Midfielders: Nicolò Barella (Cagliari), Fabio Depaoli (Chievo Verona), Rolando Mandragora (Crotone, on loan from Juventus), Alessandro Murgia (Lazio), Matteo Pessina (Spezia), Luca Valzania (Pescara);

Attackers: Alberto Cerri (Perugia, on loan from Juventus), Patrick Cutrone (AC Milan), Simone Edera (Torino), Simone Palombi (Salernitana), Vittorio Parigini (Benevento), Daniele Verde (Hellas Verona, on loan from Roma), Luca Vido (Cittadella).

There was some optimism amongst Italian supporters that Cutrone, Barella and perhaps Mandragora would get the call up from Di Biagio for the senior side’s upcoming friendlies with Argentina (23 March, Etihad Stadium) and England (27 March, Wembley Stadium) later this month. However, their maiden first-team appearances with ‘La Nazionale’ have been put on hold for now.
