Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini dismisses talk of selling key players.
The Bergamo club have been in superb form this season, sitting proudly in joint 4th position in Serie A (along with Lazio) off the back of a highly impressive seven game unbeaten run, winning six of those games. In an interview with Premium Sport Italia, Gasperini stressed Atalanta’s desire as well as the importance of keeping his talented side together;
“If I had the confirmation that our jewels will not move? I believe this is the will of the company. Atalanta wants to build its future with these players but it is clear that the market is always unpredictable. But I am sure that even if there were to be some output it would be to strengthen the team”.
The former Genoa and Palermo coach also gave his thoughts on Atalanta’s upcoming match against another in-form side, Luciano Spaletti’s Roma, after the International break;
“Roma are in a great moment, are playing a great football…but we are experiencing a great moment…When they return (from the international break) all players will prepare in the best possible way”.
Despite already taking notable scalps in defeats of Inter and Napoli, the game against the Giallorossi will be a big test for Gasperini’s young and talented side, especially with Roma aiming to chase down Serie A leaders Juventus. However, a win for Atalanta would certainly provide further encouragement for the club and their fans’ hopes of European qualification by the end of the season.
