Roma’s director general Mauro Baldissoni touched upon the feud between Francesco Totti and Luciano Spalletti before his side’s game against Palermo.
In his interview with Premium Sport, he said,:
“There’s no position to take on Totti. The coach said this morning with deep regret that he opted not to call up Totti due to yesterday’s remarks. He retains that he doesn’t have the right serenity at the moment. It wasn’t a punishment, but simply a position in which he considered what he could give to the team on the field and what effect it would have on the team. Francesco is at the Olimpico, he was in the locker room before and will be at the manager’s disposal for tomorrow’s practices. Francesco is going through a tough time as he’s less of a protagonist now with respect to the past. We will look to be closer to him and show him more affection. There’s no relationship to repair, it’s fine. Francesco is her and was with his teammates. Totti is Roma’s history, past, present and future. He’ll talk to Pallotta.”
Does his future consist of a role on or off the pitch?
“That’s a secondary concern. It’ll depend on his availability, the manager and the president’s choices. Totti and Pallotta will confront each other. We asked Spalletti to improve the team and the results. He’s doing good and we have to give him the freedom to do what he sees fit. Totti will be in the stands to watch the game.”
Will he be smiling?
“Absolutely yes. I repeat, there was no punishment.”
