Italian center back Andrea Barzagli could make his long awaited return this weekend against relegation-threatened Cesena
33 year-old Azzurri and Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli looks poised to make his return to the Bianconeri lineup this weekend when the club takes on bottom of the table side Cesena. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the player could make his return to Allegri’s squad after months on the shelf due to injury. With Cesena as low in the table as they are, this would be a good time to allow Barzagli to become accustomed to football once again after such a long spell on the sidelines.
Barzagli was called up to the World Cup Italy squad this past summer as one of the primary center back options for then manager Cesare Prandelli. Barzagli appeared in all three group stage matches, playing a total of 225 minutes before Italy were knocked out of the tournament. Last season, Barzagli made 26 league appearances for his club.
Barzagli has been a key component to the Bianconeri winning three straight Scudetto titles so his return could give the squad a boost as they climb deeper into both domestic cup and Champions League play.
