Gianluigi Buffon is looking forward to returning to the stadium where he had “happy memories” back with the Azzurri.
In 2006 Italy faced Germany in the Semi-Finals of the World Cup at the Westfalenstadion stadium, where the Germans had been undefeated playing at. Buffon played a major part as the Azzurri went on to defeat Germany 2-0 in a classic semi-final going on to win the World Cup.
Juventus take a 2-1 lead going into tomorrow’s Last 16 second leg against Borussia Dortmund, with Buffon hoping for a repeat performance from the first leg as they look to reach the Quarter Finals for the first time since 2013.
“It’s always a pleasure to come back here. I’ve had some happy times at this stadium both with club and country.
“The fans here are fervent throughout the entire game. It’s something that’s felt by the hosts and can be an added boost, but it could also give the visitors added motivation, especially if they can count on seasoned players who have already experienced such atmospheres.”
