The bianconero goalkeeper upset with Juve’s inability to take advantage of Roma’s home draw against Parma
Juventus shotstopper Gigi Buffon is one of the few Juventini that had a positive game in Cesena’s Stadio Manuzzi yesterday, saving Juventus from what would have otherwise been an embarrassing defeat at the cavallini marini.
In the post-match Buffon showed concern with himself and his teammates warning against future slip ups:
“The distance from Roma has not varied, which is what we had hoped out the outset of this game day. However, today’s performance was not satisfactory, esprecially in the first 20 minutes when we conceded too much space to the home side. A team like ours should be clinical and ruthless and cannot concede what we did to Cesena. I say this with all due respect to the side from Romagna”.
Interviewed by Sky Sports, Buffon remarked on his own faults:
“It’s mostly my fault, I’m the captain and perhaps I was not able to transmit to my teammates the necessary energy to face this adversary in the best way. Nobody will gift us the league, we must be good, me above all in order to face each game with the right approach. Today’s opportunity was too important to be thrown away”.
Some postulated the theory that Roma’s draw in the afternoon conditioned Juventus’ approach to this match: “Maybe, but other teams results should condition our way of playing”.
In an interview with Laura Barriales of JTV, Buffon reiterated some of the concepts he addressed in his earlier interview:
“Today we saw two pages that do not belong to Juve, not to a strong group, not to a ruthless group, not to our group. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s a shame because when you can win, you must win. Juventus must be hungry, they must be bulimic when it comes to winning. In order to legitimize our wins, Juventus must keep a 15 point gap on second place. Instead we allowed them to surprise us. It’s everyone’s fault, including my own. Perhaps I didn’t make them understand the importance of this match. Perhaps we’re conscious of being so good that we think that we’re invincible”.
Buffon has played 29 games and conceded 17 goals in all competitions for Juventus this season.
