Antonio Candreva spoke to the press following Italy’s clinching win over Azerbaijan in Baku.
We really want to end the group as leaders, also to help us get a better draw in the tournament,” said Candreva in today’s daily Azzurri Press conference.
“It’s an honor to wear the Italy shirt at the Stadio Olimpico, in my home town, even though last time out it didn’t end well as we lost here in a friendly with Argentina. On Tuesday I’ll have another chance.”
“We have used many different systems, from 3-5-2 to 4-3-3 and 4-4-2, but we never get confused. We chose this tactic for Baku in order to make life difficult for Azerbaijan.
“It’s not easy to prepare for an international match with so little time, but we always do it with the highest level of commitment and I think you can see that.
“Italy are an important footballing nation and in these competitions we always aim to go all the way. The other nations fear us and so it’s only right that we prepare to win every time.”
With the rise of Roma’s right sided utility man Alessandro Florenzi, Candreva was quizzed if this could impact the way he plays and his mindset off the pitch.
“We’re in the national side, and there aren’t any rivalries. Alessandro is a great play that plays very well in all the roles that he does. What’s important is the group, that we all remain on the same side.”
