Roma were unceremoniously dumped out of the Champions League Play offs by an inspired Porto side, who came to the Rome with a point to prove.

Szczesny (5): Not a lot that Szczesny could do as Roma lost De Rossi and Emerson to red cards and was left exposed by a poor marking.

Bruno Peres (4): Debut game and with only 9 men on the field was left trying to bring some sense of control to the game.

Manolas (5): reliable and had a few shots on target at Porto’s goal but was at fault for allowing Jesus Corona to run past and slot Porto’s third of the night.

De Rossi (2): Placed surprisingly into center back due to the number of injuries and suspensions in Roma’s back line. Spalletti was counting on De Rossi on bringing his vast experience to the game, especially after a dominant performance in the first leg but alas a reckless studs up challenge on Maxi Pereira’s shin saw the Italian international sent off. Placed his already stressed side under more pressure.

Juan Jesus (4): Did okay for the most part but left Felipe unmarked for their opening goal. Was shifted into the center of the park to bring some defensive structure but was unable to achieve much.

Paredes (4): Played 42 mins of the the game before being subbed for Emerson to bring some defensive stability.

Nainggolan (6): Easily Roma’s best player of the night. The midfielder was strong in the tackle and was also able to place pressure on Porto with a number of shots on target. Was the only player to recieve applause from the crowd at the conclusion of the match.

Strootman (6): Played the full game, gave his all and then some. Given mission impossible after going down to 9-men but fought valiantly to the end.

Salah (5): Tried his best to create chances for Dzeko and Perotti but found it hard with Porto putting pressure on the defence. Playing with 9 men limited his ability to provide attacking support.

Dzeko (4): Had a few shots and used his body when he could. Subbed off in the second half.

Perotti (4): Same as majority of Roma players, tried but was often left wanting. Not up to his usual standard and was subbed at the 85th minute for Gerson.

Emerson (2): Subbed on and red carded early in the second half which essentially meant Roma’s demise. unlikely that Emerson much to boost his chances under Spalletti in the future.

Iturbe (3): Unable to do much as Porto continue to pile pressure.

Gerson n/a: not enough time to exert much influence in the game.
