It could be back to the future for Antonio Conte, who may swap Blue for Azzurro.
‘A very strong possibility,’ reports Tuttomercatoweb. The FIGC, who will have a new president in under two weeks, has already begun work on bringing in the next Italy coach.
After the disaster against Sweden that will have the Italians full of pain in the summer, Antonio Conte has become target #1 for the job. The idea according to reports has the backing of some of the FIGC’s biggest sponsors, who could shell out extra funds if the current Chelsea coach is indeed landed.
Chelsea and Conte seem to be going their separate ways. There’s already talk of bringing in Luis Enrique, Maurizio Sarri and even Massimiliano Allegri to Stamford Bridge. The Lecce-born coach may already be well on his way out.
For Italian football, things have come full circle. It’s like the summer of 2014, a new FA president and a new head coach are on the way, perhaps Conte will be the man to resurrect the fallen giant.
