Inter and Chelsea are going head to head for Zenit’s Ezequiel Garay and at the moment the English giants are ahead in the race for the defender.
According to Russian media outlet Sovsport, Chelsea have sent representatives to Russia to close a deal for Garay. Antonio Conte has targeted a number of centre-halves over the course of this transfer window and it seems the Argentine is the latest. After failing to sign Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli, the English giants shifted their attention to the Russian league.
This affected Inter’s mercato plans as they were previously keen on the 29-year-old defender but have since been beaten to the player’s signature by Chelsea. In the coming days, Chelsea and Zenit will continue to negotiate while Inter wait in the wings. As a result, the nerazzurri may just have to switch targets as the transfer window closes shortly.
