The Bosnian midfielder still thinks that advancing against Madrid is possible: “We’re going there to play, even if it’s going to be very difficult. Spalletti? He alw’ays has your back, unless you don’t do what he tells you, then he gets dangerous.”

“This is the real Roma. This is the reason why we are going to go to Madrid and play the perfect match and we also believe in ourselves in the league.” These are Miralem Pjanic’s words following the crushing victory against Fiorentina. Whilst speaking to Roma Radio, the Bosnian admitted that he was very good form as of late. “I’m feeling good and so is the rest of the team. I like playing the way I am, it’s obvious. Physically everyone is well, everyone knows what they have to do on the pitch, there’s always a teammate there to dish the ball to, this confidence is apparent when we’re playing.”

A lot of the credit, and Pjanic agrees, goes to Spalletti: “I already knew of him from the past work he did with Roma, he’s a good manager, tough, and he always has your back. We can talk about anything with him, and he always protects you.”

When asked about the repercussions if one were not to listen to Spalletti, Pjanic laughs: “Well, he can be scary…” The Tuscan manager puts a lot of effort into the daily training sessions, especially on defense: “He’s very precise, and also very intense which helps us go into a game with more confidence.”

This confidence will be necessary come Tuesday when Roma face Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, when the Giallorossi will try to overcome the 2-0 aggregate score. “We’re going to give it our all even if it will be very difficult. We could have and should have scored a goal at home, things will be very complicated, but we’ll try to play a perfect match.” Will Dzeko be starting? Pjanic jumps to his teammate and friends defense: “Edin wants to play every match, everyone does, but the gaffer said to the team and to the press that he makes the final decisions.” So it’s better to think about oneself: “They say I’m inconsistent? You can have some off games, there are some periods of time in which it seems that one doesn’t know how to play football, but I’m here to help my teammates as the best Pjanic possible.”

Roma are going to need that Pjanic if they hope to overtake Napoli in the table. “I also need help from my teammates. Let’s not set objectives quite yet, let us win matches and get points, then we’ll see.” Although this may be true, there is always an objective. “I want to win something here. This team is always setting the bar higher and I like that. Now I hope that the fans will come back to the curva so we can have our stadium back, we need that too if we hope to beat Juve.”
