“The formation of a European super league is complex because there are multiple parties involved”, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis told Sky Sports Italy.
“The challenge is that in some domestic leagues like Spain and France there isn’t a significant number of great clubs, once you set aside anomalies like Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG and Monaco”.
De Laurentiis then stated that only English Premier League and Bundesliga governors seem interested in such undertakings.
The Napoli president added that there are many emerging football nations coming to the fore, like the US, China, India, who might revolutionize the game; “thus it’s reductive to talk only about Europe”.
“Unfortunately”, he concluded, “Football’s governors belong to the past”
