Two more of Italy’s most important players are not training at full capacity at the moment.
Reports suggest that Daniele De Rossi did not train at all this morning with a groin issue. Meanwhile Andrea Barzagli trained apart from the group, presumably still nursing the same hurts as have been troubling throughout the tournament.
These two veterans, both of whom participated in the 2006 finals, add to the growing list of incapacitated starters for Italy: first Riccardo Montolivo broke his leg, ruling him out of the entire tournament, then captain Gigi Buffon and full-back Mattia De Sciglio dropped out of the opening match against England.
Buffon is still undergoing therapy and not yet training, whereas De Sciglio is beginning to take part in some aspects of the preparations for Friday’s encounter with Costa Rica.
From the Gazzetta dello Sport‘s point of view Barzagli and De Rossi seem likely to recover, but we won’t see either De Sciglio or Buffon in the next match.
