After captaining his side to victory over Netherlands, Italy’s Daniele De Rossi had a few interesting words to say about the results, the national team and it’s current state.
Following his side’s win De Rossi spoke to the media. The Roma midfielder said,” There was a good reaction on our part. At times, we were playing really well, and this gives us added satisfaction. Winning against Netherlands is never easy and like Conte said wining breeds winning. The national team has to pick itself up through real men and real players. Men who want to sacrifice for the cause. The younger players were heavily involved tonight and rightfully so. For Conte there is no need to understand what representing the national team means. Whoever doesn’t understand this, has issues. My declarations following the World Cup? The media blew my comments out of proportion and I never gave names. I don’t like to hide behind comments, you guys know that. If I wanted to name names I would have.” The Roma player then spoke about his new role in the side in Pirlo’s absence. De Rossi said,”My role? I like it a lot and i’m at the disposal of the manager. I’ve already spoke with the manager about Pirlo, it will be Andrea’s decision whether he will be with the team.” De Rossi finished this interview by speaking about Conte and Cesare Prandelli. He said,”I don’t like talking about my manager as we risk talking just to talk. The feelings are really positive right now and he’s probably the best Italian manager right now.” The Azzurri midfielder was then asked about Prandelli and said,”Prandelli? I hope he succeeds in Turkey and does big things. Like always in Italy the first to be blamed for a team’s shortcomings is the coach. The critics easily forget all the good that was done in the past but then we failed in the World Cup. Perhaps, the criticism’s justified then. He took the responsibility for it. In Italy that’s a risk the coach takes.”
Daniele De Rossi and Italy now take on Norway on Tuesday in what will be their Euro 2016 qualifier opener.
