Speaking after Italy’s emphatic 2-0 victory over The Netherlands in what marked Antonio Conte’s first match in charge of the national team, Mattia De Sciglio, who featured for just under 70 minutes, spoke to reporters following the win.
“We are very happy with this win and for the game we delivered. We immediately implemented the ideas and tactics of Conte, which we have successfully managed to make our own in a space of only three days. The plays we came up with worked well during the match; we are pleased with the result and the performance. We are a well-equipped group, a fundamental aspect of any winning side. Since Monday, we built a winning mentality which was created for the purpose of returning to winning ways.”
What do you think of Conte?
“He is a winner, is determined, and demands a lot. He puts a great amount of care and detail into everything he does. We young people have an obligation to put forth a sense of enthusiasm on the pitch. This is something Conte asks of us. He also calls for sacrifice on behalf of the players. In attack, we must continue our search to find the best-suited line of attackers, a scenario that is the same for all positions on this team.”
What changes might their be for Tuesday in Norway?
“We need to think only about obtaining three points and taking to the field with desire and determination. We know it will not be an easy match, Noway playing at home is the first challenge. We want to take all three points.”
