If there is one player who hasn’t seen the end of transfer rumors, it’s Fabio Coentrao. The Portuguese full back has been heavily linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu. During the winter transfer window, Manchester United were only minutes away from luring the 26 year old to Old Trafford.
Per Carlo Ancelotti, Marcelo has been his first choice (when healthy) at the left back position. However, when the Brazilian international has been sidelined mainly because of injuries, Coentrao steps up with confidence and delivers very strong performances which can be reflected in Real Madrid’s current form having sealed their first title of the year against bitter rivals FC Barcelona.
Coentrao’s work has not gone unnoticed in Europe’s top leagues. The Spanish and Italian media continuously link him to Milan who desperately need a ‘natural’ full back according to head coach Clarence Seedorf. Recent reports from Fichajes.net, indicate that there now seems to be more interest coming from Milan, as Inter and Eric Thohir have joined the race and will begin to negotiate with Los Blancos for the Portuguese international, who will certainly attract more interest during the summer’s World Cup. Real Madrid have set his price at 15 million, and Thohir is looking to bring his best cards to the table.
