2) Mario Balotelli (OGC Nice) –
Despite rumours that Supermario would return to the fold, Di Biagio opted to snub the former Milan man in favour of Ciro Immobile, Andrea Belotti and Patrick Cutrone. Balotelli has found the back of the net with regularity in France, scoring 22 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions. Considering that Belotti has only scored two goals since match-day 10 and is still returning to full fitness, Balotelli should have been called.
While the 27-year-old cuts an enigmatic figure at times, his talent at the international level is proven and his skill-set differs from the other options. For all of Immobile’s goals with Lazio, the former Dortmund man is yet to translate that form to the national team, something Balotelli has never had an issue with. Cutrone – by contrast – is still wetting his feet, but is frankly deserving of a shot given his recent run of form and past exploits with gli Azzurrini. Should Balotelli continue scoring goals with ease, it would be a travesty to see him excluded moving forward.
