Bologna star Simone Verdi was rewarded by his teammates today with the captain’s armband after rejecting a transfer to Napoli this week.
After defeating Benevento 3-0 today Bologna manager Roberto Donadoni spoke to the press with regards to the hard-fought game and Verdi’s captaincy.
“It was a strong start to the game and after the goal by Destro the game became easier and this victory will allow us to work with greater calmness.”
Verdi played his first game since rejecting a transfer to Napoli earlier this week and the Italian international was rewarded with the captain’s armband by his Rossoblu teammates Donadoni revealed when speaking to Sky Sport Italia.
“The armband on Verdi? This was the decision of the whole team and Mirante as a show of faith, Simone accepted this willingly. I am very happy that Verdi has remained and now we have to close this chapter because we often see that players are insulted when they decide to remain anonymous and move clubs, yet Verdi is still being insulted for not moving, football is a profession and everyone needs to see it that way”.
Bologna will be extremely happy that Verdi has remained with the club as he has arguably been their star player this season, the Italian international has contributed 6 goals and 8 assists in 21 appearances and has also made his debut for the Italian senior team since the start of the season.
