After a collection of underwhelming performances in the Champions League this week, fans of Calcio can take one positive away from it all – Marco Verratti. The young PSG midfielder played spectacularly in the Parisien club’s 3-0 victory over Portuguese giants, Benfica. Although he didn’t get on the scoresheet, Verratti was – as Arrigo Sacchi would say – a chief protagonist throughout the entire game.
After the match, Marco Verratti’s agent, Donato Di Campli, had this to say about the highly popular youngster, “It was of great satisfaction, for both Me and Marco, that when he was substituted the crowd paid tribute to him with a standing ovation. I must admit, it gave me chills! It was an incredible feeling.”.
He [Di Campli] then went on to say, “In a short time, and despite being at such a young age, he has quickly become one of the main leaders of the team.”. When asked about Verratti and the Azzurri, his agent said “Let’s wait and hope. On our part, there is maximum availability to the coach [Prandelli]”.
Marco Verratti was frequently mentioned throughout this Summer’s transfer window, with the Italian midfielder being a target of numerous top European clubs, most notably Juventus, Fiorentina and Manchester United. At this moment in time, however, Verratti appears to be settled.
