England 1-1 Italy: The Azzurri Player Ratings

Italy earn a draw at Wembley despite an abysmal performance. The match ratings below.

PlayerRatingCommentary
Gianluigi Donnarumma6.5 Unlucky to have been scored on but he can thank his defense for falling asleep in front of him. Besides that, he handled the night with ease. A strong performance from the 19-year-old.
Davide Zappacosta5.5 Solid defensively but offered very little going forward. A step above Darmian however.
Leonardo Bonucci6 The Italy captain looked strong and convincing but it’s a whole new world out there for him. The days of Bonucci being shadowed by others are over. It very well could be his Azzurri.
Daniele Rugani5.5 A little disappointing from the Juventus defender. Not only tonight, but against Argentina. He tries to play like Barzagli but lacks the experience and cutting edge. Didn’t buckle tonight except on England’s heads up quick free-kick which they scored on.
Mattia De Sciglio6.5A co-captain like performance from the left back. As Italy’s third most capped player on the pitch tonight, his experience came in handy. Overall a strong night on the flank for him.
Lorenzo Pellegrini5.5 Showed flashes but ultimately a night where he failed to standout. Pellegrini has a bright future, but he did not take full advantage of these two friendlies. Well, nobody did really.
Marco Parolo4.5 Awful at times. But the coach can really be blamed for this one because he put Parolo up against Sterling and he was never going to win that foot race.
Jorginho6 Need to see more from Jorginho as he has faded in and out of his first few matches. A few Pirlo-esque balls though saved his rating.
Antonio Candreva4.5 Terrible. The most predictable player on the planet from the wing. Hopefully this is the last time he plays for the Azzurri.
Ciro Immobile2.5 Absolutely horrific. Missed three golden opportunities in the first 15 minutes and then totally disappeared afterwards. An overrated Di Natale.
Lorenzo Insigne5 Another horrid performance from Insigne but his rating is saved by scoring the equalizer from the spot. He needs to do a complete 180 and start playing like he wants to be here. The entire first half he refused to track in and make an impact – totally marked out of the game.

Substitutions

Andrea Belotti4.5 A casualty of a fallen Italy, Belotti looks totally lost and could be a fringe player very soon. No spark, energy, nothing.
Federico Chiesa6.5 The Fiorentina man was a real bright spot and is the future of the Azzurri. He caused England problems as soon as he stepped onto the pitch and earned the penalty that leveled the score. There’s a lot of hope and promise here. Italy has another jewel, let’s hope he’s polished.
Roberto Gagliardini6 Came on late but added some grinta and neat passes to earn a rating.
