Two of England’s top clubs are interested in Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci as Manchester City and Chelsea are reportedly lining up bids for the former Bari man.
This morning Tuttomercatoweb.com reported that new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wants Leonardo Bonucci at Chelsea when he signs with them in the summer. These rumours have been reported both in Italy and in England and are beginning to gain some traction. The Juventus defender would be Roman Abramovich’s first major signing of the summer.
With John Terry set to leave the club in the summer, there is a gaping hole at the heart of the Blues’ defence. Since signing with Juventus, Bonucci has established himself as one of the better defenders in the world and can dictate the play as good as almost any defender in football. As a result, it should come as no surprise that Conte, a man who built his title-winning defences around Bonucci, would want him at his new club.
However, they will face stiff competition from Manchester City as Pep Guardiola also wants the player and is prepared to offer Juventus 35 million euros for him.
Today, Bonucci spoke out to the media about the rumours. The Juventus defender said,:
“I have a contract with Juventus until 2020. I met Conte in Turin & the furthest he’s asked me to follow him is for a cup of coffee. If today I am one of the best defenders in Europe or in the world, then surely a big part of the credit goes to the coach.”
