Patrice Evra could be returning to England before the end of January.
After Rio Ferdinand “called Evra home”, it appears Manchester United is the next destination for the French wingback.
It’s not an easy choice for Evra, with the last few months being filled with happiness in Torino. And with the reaction the fans gave him after he signed a 1-year extension (with an option for 2018), those moments are weighing heavily on him.
With Alex Sandro’s rise, it’s relegated Evra to more of a bench role, a locker room figure. Now, he’s being courted by the Red Devils and a return back to his old stomping grounds appears to be on the cards.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus don’t have many good options for January. AC Milan’s demands for De Sciglio are way too high. It’s tough to convince United to swap Evra for Darmian, who he himself isn’t too highly regarded by Mourinho. There’s Alejandro Grimaldo, a 21-year old Benfica player who graduated from Barcelona’s youth academy, but his asking price won’t be cheap.
Then there’s Bologna’s Adam Masina, the Moroccan-Italian who has played very well in Serie A the last two seasons for his side.
With options at a premium, it will be interesting to see where Juventus choose to go.
