Former Azzurri captain and Juventus star Fabio Cannavaro has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for breaching police orders.
According to prosecutor Luigi Cannavale, Cannavaro, his brother Paolo and wife Daniela Arenoso, breached police orders which banned them from entering their villa.
Cannavaro has been under investigation for tax evasion and had his villa seized last October by the authorities in Naples.
Cannavaro was given a 10-month jail term, while his brother Paolo (who plays for Sassuolo), and his wife were also hit with custodial sentences.
The prosecution alleged the three abused the country’s building regulations and failed to secure permission from the local city council to carry out works to their house and surrounding land.
The Cannavaro brothers and Arenoso were acquitted over the planning permission allegations, but convicted for entering their property illegally.
They immediately appealed, meaning the sentences are suspended until the court has re-visited the case.
