The former World Cup winning captain of La Nazionale is positive about the squad and says emotions are high going into their opening game against Belgium this evening.
In a interview with Sky Sport, Fabio Cannavaro discussed his feelings about the team and what they will need to overcome the odds:
I have a positive feeling. There is a good manager at the helm and good players. A star player may be missing but if the Azzurri work together as a squad, results could come. Insigne is a player with a great deal of imagination but if Conte chooses to go with a 3-5-2, the wings will have to cover defensively and Lorenzo will have to make sacrifices. He has always done it and I believe he will find space on the pitch.
In a competition like this, every one is needed. On a few occasions, players who came into a tournament as reserves ended up being starters. Emotions are strong at start of the EUROs and World Cups. Tonight, Italy must play as a team. The Azzurri have to believe and take advantage of the presumption of Belgium looking to win with a single shot on goal, like it has happened others times in the past.
Cannavaro also took the time to talk about his tenure in China:
The experience in China stimulated me a lot. I did not think I would like it as much as I did. I am doing experiences overseas but I hope to return to Italy. I know I could have the opportunity to one day manage the National Team and I will have to be ready.
