Fiorentina bench boss Paulo Sousa was pleased with his team’s performance in a 1-1 draw with Napoli.
Fiorentina are now tied with Roma for third.
Here are the main points discussed by Sousa:
“Tonight we did not have that bit of luck required to bring home a winning result which, I believe, is beyond merit. We’ve always believed we can finish in third and we certainly won’t stop to fight for this objective. I am proud of the great will demonstrated by the lads. Since the start of the season we’ve been competing against clubs built to win the scudetto.”
“I complimented everyone, we had a positive approach and we made things difficult for a quality side. The lads have a big heart. After the break we made too many errors. Napoli is a well organized side and they gained confidence as time passed. Slowly slowly we turned things around and found the right equilibrium till the end of the match. ”
Fiorentina will face Roma next on Friday, having two days less rest than their opponent.
“We have raised our expectations with respect to the start of the season. It’s an important time of the season, the lads have maintained the quality of their play and I am proud of them. Having two less rest days than Roma penalizes us, that is a fact. I remain optimistic, we are always working on recovering our energy. I am certain we will play a great game, hopefully this time we will be able to win against a club built to win the scudetto.”
