Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa was pleased with his team’s performance, despite drawing 1-1 with Tottenham in the first leg of their Europa League tie, round of 32.
“Tottenham is a great team and we know that when we have certain players in pre-determined positions we struggle to press high against the opponent. It was a match where we started slow and then increased our level of quality and intensity. In the end we did not win a match that we deserved to win.”
“Fiorentina has demonstrated yet again it can compete at these levels. The English sides have a culture of great intensity and we realized we can compete at the same level and this makes me proud to manage these lads. We’ll see what will transpire on the return leg in order to make our city and country proud. It is important to give a positive image of our football and we take this seriously. “
