The Genovese want to bring back the Italy midfielder or a similar replacement.
According to Genova’s newspaper il Secolo XIX, the Grifoni are in talks with several possible candidates to reinforce the midfield.
The top target in Polish midfielder Szymon Zurkowski from Górnik Zabrze but reaching an agreement won’t be easy. Other failed attempts were talks with Manuel Locatelli (Milan), Jose Mauri (Milan) and Afryrie Acquah, now Genoa has gone to Plan E.
Genoa’s “dream signing” remains Stefano Sturaro from Juventus but it’s difficult to conceive the Bianconeri letting him go in January.
Oscar Hiljemark from Olympiakos remains an option as well as Lorenzo Callegari from PSG.
All in all, Genoa are on the market for a midfielder, but there are many obstacles to the targets listed. The club does not want to spend a lot of money this month.
