Giampaolo Pozzo: “Di Natale doesn’t want to retire”

Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo gave today a very interesting interview to Radio Anch’io Lo Sport, discussing the most important Udinese-related topics. “The team is exactly the same as last year, with the addition of young talents. We pass from excellent performances like the one against Milan, to other inexcusable ones like the one with Cagliari where we conceded three goals without an explanation. It’s a season that was born badly.”

“The project belongs to me and to the management. The team, the coach and the staff are good but the results don’t arrive. Since it’s the management that takes decisions, the problems depend on us. Going back we would do different choices. Maybe the club wasn’t able to create the right environment.”

“We are a provinciale, the club is fine economically but has to face the fact that some players have important ambitions, they want to play in bigger teams. We have to acknowledge this desire of changing. Every year we demount and remount the toy. It would be counter-productive to keep at all costs a player that wants to leave.”

“The only opposite case has been Antonio Di Natale that renounced to a big team to stay in a reality he is familiar with. Beside his age, Totò is fine and I feel to interpret his mind saying that he doesn’t want to retire. His words were caused by the discouragement of a difficult time. There is no element that says that his career is ending.”

“I absolutely deny any contact with different coaches. Guidolin has a contract until 2017 and our relationship is perfect. He is suffering from this situation because he’s very emotional. If he decided to resign, we would not be able to do anything.”
