Toronto FC’s Sebastian Giovinco echos his agent’s words about Chinese interest in him, doesn’t ponder an eventual return to Italy.
TFC’s Italian star Sebastian Giovinco confirms interest in him from China. “Yes, their interest was referred to me but we will speak with TFC because I’m happy here. My agent told me that they sought me from China, but he didn’t say which team”, he told Italian media outlet Sky Sport 24.
Some observers have stated how the Atomic Ant could be a walk on for most Serie A sides. “I sincerely have no interest in returning to Italy. I’m happy in Canada and I don’t have any intention of returning to Italy”, Giovinco firmly stated.
When asked which team do you see yourself in Italy, Giovinco said that while Juve has remained the strongest team in Italy since he has left he never thought about any Italian team to which he could go to in the future.
Last January it was rumoured that an offer had come from Barcelona for Giovinco to join them mid-season. Giovinco confirms: “yes, they had told me so, but I would have simply been a ball boy: I would have never played with those three [Messi, Suarez and Neymar] ahead of me in the pecking order. I wanted to play, and didn’t feel like being a bench player”.
Seba has not received a call up since Ventura took over at the helm of the Italian national team. Giovinco confirmed that he was never contacted by the new coach, that he’s not disappointed and that everyone makes their own choices. “I have no expectations – except respect”, he stated, “what I have done [in Toronto] is clearly not enough”.
With the MLS preseason underway, Giovinco knows full well the gift that he would like for his future: “The MLS Cup that we lost last season”.
