The German international advised the young Croat to move to Gelsenkirchen.
Marko Pjaca’s first interview as a Schalke player revealed why he was so anxious to join the famous Munster-based side.
“I spoke with [Benedikt] Howedes about Schalke and he told me many positive things about the club.
“He spoke a lot about the fans, the atmosphere. I also spoke with the head coach and his ideas. I liked all of it and I hope now I can play as much as possible.”
Howedes was signed by Juventus in the summer but has featured very little due to a string of injuries.
Pjaca was signed on a 6-month ‘dry’ loan for €1 million with an additional €500,000 in possible performance bonuses to be added. Schalke does not have a buy option at the end of the loan.
