Napoli will put their faith in Manolo Gabbiadini if they cannot acquire Mauro Icardi from Inter, but will not bother with any other player for Sarri’s attack.
The Azzurri have already acquired Arkadiusz Milik from Ajax to help replace Higuain. However, all preseason long, Gabbiadini has proven that he is ready to lead Napoli’s offense.
Napoli played in a friendly on Sunday against Monaco, winning the match 5-0 with Gabbiadini scoring four goals. The young Italian striker has not only shown up in the preseason, but has usually been productive whenever called upon.
Therefore, Napoli has confidence in Gabbiadini and may be ready to allow him to lead Sarri’s squad in the attack.
Although there is increasing confidence in Gabbiadini, the team has not given up on signing Mauro Icardi, according to Di Marzio.
Napoli has shown that their interest in Icardi is serious. It is the Milan club that keeps rejecting the offers. Inter is keen on keeping their young captain and are looking to renew his contract.
If Icardi made the move to Napoli, it would likely mean a Gabbiadini exit. If Napoli misses out on Icardi, Sarri will surely point to Gabbiadini.
The one sure thing in all of this is: Gabbiadini or Icardi, but no one else for Napoli in the attack. Instead, the club will invest the money they would have for Icardi, in other areas of need. One of those needs is another defender.
While this story continues to unfold, Di Marzio reports that Napoli are in negotiations for the transfers of goalkeeper Marco Sportiello and midfielder Marko Rog. Even so, the importance remains in the future of Napoli’s attack.
