Wanda Nara, agent of Mauro Icardi, has claimed that the Inter forward came very close to joining the Spanish giants last summer.
The 23-year-old Argentinean had attracted interest from clubs such as Napoli, Tottenham and Arsenal before signing a contract extension last week which will keep him at the San Siro until 2021.
Wanda Nara, Icardi’s agent-wife, spoke to Sportsweek recently about how advanced the negotiations were with Real Madrid and also Juventus, who she claims wanted Icardi before signing Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli for a record-fee.
Nara explained how she kept Icardi out of all negotiations because “he wanted to keep his mind clear of these thoughts,” and also spoke of how the many transfer talks caused tension amongst the entourage of the player and Inter Milan chief Piero Ausilio:
“Piero Ausilio and I argued throughout the entire negotiation process, but in the end we’re always friends again. He’s a great professional.”
Icardi currently has 58 goals in 114 appearances for the nerazzuri and is arguably the most important player on the roster for Frank de Boer.
