Inter manager, Roberto Mancini spoke following the Derby D’Italia match up on Sunday at the San Siro.
Finishing Week 9 in third place, Inter could only snag one point away from Juventus, who are ended the week in fourteenth.
Mancini had a fair reaction following the match, but thought his side could have done more to secure a victory.
“It was a tough match for both sides. It’s the sort of result that can happen when two solid teams meet. We played to win, but in the end both defences came out on top.
Too many players were tired today. It is hard to prepare when you have so many leave for the International break.
I’m satisfied because the guys showed character. It wasn’t easy, especially because we had five or six players back late from international duty. Juventus didn’t have many chances and neither did we, so 0-0 is a fair result. Perhaps we struggled a bit more in the second half and we should have stayed higher up the pitch, but these are difficult matches and we know we still need to improve.
Fiorentina are the favourites for the Scudetto right now because they’re out in front of everybody. They played very well against Napoli today, despite losing. It’s a tough, even league this year and you need to fight in every game to win.”
Speaking about his front-line attackers, Mancini acknowledged Jovetic’s efforts in the match and the lack of scoring yet to come from Icardi.
“I think Jovetic had his best game since he’s been at Inter, despite only training for three days. He tired a bit after the break, but that’s to be expected. He can only improve from here on in.
When Mauro Icardi starts scoring it will be a great boost for us. He’s scored two so far but I’m convinced he’ll have 18-20 goals by the end of the season. He must do better and he knows it. We definitely have to work on the attack”
