Andrea Ranocchia had an incredible display against the Reds on Saturday afternoon.
Just a few days ago, I wrote how the Italian’s move to Hull City was his last chance to prove he’s a quality defender worth retaining at a top club. Now with a full 90 minute debut under his belt, things are becoming a little more clear.
Statistically speaking, Ranocchia had a Man of the Match performance against the crumbling Merseyside outfit.
He had the joint-top amount of clearances (15), two blocked shots and a crucial interception to keep Liverpool from crashing in on goal. The big Italy man was brought in to sure up a shaky defense, and in his first two games with the club, he’s played a role in earning two cleansheets.
Ranocchia completed the third most accurate passes on Saturday as well, in addition to assisting one of the Tigers two goals.
All in all, Hull City only held the ball for 28% of the match, meaning for the vast majority of the game they were back defending. If the club are to avoid relegation, they will need many more matches, just like that.
