Italy v Albania – Players ratings

Antonio Conte’s men scraped a win against Albania this evening, with Italy debutant Stefano Okaka scoring the winner.

Italia player ratings

Salvatore Sirigu

The PSG shot stopper looked shaky between the sticks at times overall it was a solid display for the man who’s tipped to take Buffon’s throne, a clean sheet is hard to argue with. 7

Lorenzo Di Silvestri

A standard performance from the Sampdoria man, his international stock rose based on his performance in this game, he seemed to adapt to the Italy defence well. 6.5

Leonardo Bonucci

The most experienced defender on the pitch, Bonucci seemed like a natural leader on the pitch tonight, held an inexperienced Italy defence together. 7.5

Emiliano Moretti

Italy’s oldest ever debutant looked solid throughout, seemed nerved by the whole occasion but handled Albania’s rare attacks well. 6.5

Alessio Cerci

Italy’s most lively player on the night, he may not be getting game time for Atletico Madrid but he caused Albania all sorts of problems and looked most likely to score all game. 8

Marco Parolo

A sub-par performance from the former Juventus man, made several decent passes but looked like a passenger for most of the game, he did little to prove his worth to Conte. 6

Alberto Aquilani

Aquilani was poor in possession, struggled to control the tempo of the game as he was asked to do, gave away the ball in midfield on a number of occasions. The Fiorentina man has done himself no favours. 6

Andrea Bertolacci

A solid performance from the on-loan Roma midfielder, he’s tipped for big things and did well in the centre of Italy’s midfield, you should expect him to be playing for the Azzurri for a longtime, Italy’s best central midfield player today. 7

Luca Antonelli

An up and down performance for the wingback, Antonelli struggled to have any kind of impact on the game, he didn’t play his normal position and was asked to take on a more attacking role, but Antonio Conte won’t view it that way. 6

Sebastian Giovinco

The Bianconeri man made several runs to try and penetrate the Albanian defense, the striker looked as lively as ever but didn’t have the cutting edge to break the deadlock before Okaka came on. 6

Mattia Destro

A poor showing from a man who is trying to prove himself to Antonio Conte, had several flashes of what he could do but failed to impress against what was a poor opposition. 6

Substitutes

Manolo Gabbiadini

Had very little time to establish himself, but had a lacklustre performance and was overshadowed by Okaka’s performance, wasn’t provided the chances he gets at Sampdoria. 5

Giacomo Bonaventura

Bonaventura added a lot of energy to the Azzurri when he came on, he took Bertolacci’s role and tried to drive Italy’s midfield forward to try and find a winner. 7

Mattia Perin

The Genoa goalkeeper had very little to do but seemed confident after taking Sirigu’s place, Perin ensured he’ll be getting more chances in the national team as he made no mistakes and as Italy look for a replacement for Gianluigi Buffon. 7

Stefano Okaka

Okaka will have given Antonio Conte food for thought after his energetic display that allowed him to score the winner for Italy. He did everything a striker should and the likes of Balotelli and Destro will be sweating about their international places. 8

Alessandro Matri

The former AC Milan striker offered little up front, allowed Okaka to make some runs in between the defence, perhaps meaning Okaka plays better next to a striker who can hold up play, such as Matri. 6

Francesco Acerbi

A great night for football as Acerbi, who has been recovering after beating cancer, came on for Bonucci, Acerbi dealt with the situation well and did not seem overwhelmed, he seemed solid throughout and can hopefully fight for his place in the Azzurri. 6.5
