The former Uruguayan international Javier Chevanton has joined QPR on a 3-month contract. Chevanton was without a team after his long fairy tale with Lecce concluded in June with no happy ending.
Javier Chevanton is a Lecce hero: he had his best season there in 02/03 and 03/04. He then became a journeyman, playing for Monaco, Sevilla and Atalanta, before re-joining Lecce in 10/11. He left to play for Colon but he romantically came back to his beloved Lecce the next year when they were in trouble: they just suffered a double relegation, one on the pitch, the other due to match fixing. They fell directly from Serie A to Legapro.
Javier Chevanton joined the team to help the team regaining at least Serie B. The new Lecce president Antonio Tesoro stated that they would never let him go again and that he would sign a permanent contract, something unheard of in football. All in all Chevanton performed well, scoring 6 goals in 14 matches, but Lecce lost the playoff and stayed in Legapro. Javier soon found out that Tesoro’s words were only empty promises: his 6-month contract was not renewed.
Now Chevanton begins a new challenge, as he has to help QPR regaining an EPL spot.
