Serie A leader Juventus beat Sassuolo 2-0 at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Gonzalo Higuain opened the scoring for Juventus in the 9th minute. Then, Sami Khedira doubled the lead later in the first half. After the match, bianconeri manager Massimiliano Allegri spoke to Sky about the match.
Allegri said he introduced the 4-2-3-1 formation because the team has the players to make it successful.
“This is our system of play because we have players who interpret the system well,” Allegri said. “But, it’s not even granted that we will play this way the whole season. I thought of this formation in my projection for Europe because we had to improve our game.”
Nonetheless, Allegri said his team still needs to work. He admitted that the team has played better as of late because it hasn’t been as conservative. The Italian coach expressed his distaste with being conservative.
Clearly, we need to work,” Allegri said. “In any case it should be noted that the guys give ample availability on defense and everything becomes easier. In the last few matches, we have suffered little; there is the need to congratulate the guys for this. We had become too conservative. We cannot expect to end the season this way. I don’t like to be conservative and the guys know it.”
Sky asked Allegri if there had been any one player that has stood out to him. Allegri said Mario Mandzukic’s efforts have been a big boost to the squad.
“Mandzukic is giving us a big hand,” Allegri said. “He knows how to play football and a motor that is different from others, he hardly ever struggles. He is an example for the younger guys.”
Juve’s coach also commented on something that they need to correct right away. He made it clear that the team can’t afford to turn over the ball so easily.
“We cannot gift away some easy balls,” Allegri said. “[Miralem] Pjanic for example, is a player who can finish games without messing up a pass and instead today…”
Sky also asked Allegri about his future at Juventus, to which the the coach said he wants to move forward with the club.
“I am great here with Juventus,” Allegri said. “I want to go forward, clearly if that’s also what the club wants.”
Juventus will play Inter Milan in their next Serie A match next Sunday, Feb. 5. Allegri said the team will be prepared and that it should be a great game.
“It will be a beautiful game,” Allegri said. “We will prepare as well as possible.”
