Juventus central defender Leonardo Bonucci spoke ahead of the top table clash against Roma.
“It’s wonderful to play in these types of encounters. Roma has generally underperformed in recent years, but this year they have returned to the top. Such a huge match right after the break immediately focuses us on Serie A business”, Bonucci told JTV‘s Filo Diretto.
Bonucci thinks back to the metaphorical slap Juventus suffered against Fiorentina on match day 8: “We thought long and hard about that match and said to ourselves that we were a little presumptuous due to the fact that we came off back-to-back scudetto victories. That slap served us well”.
“The biggest threat this year comes surely from Roma, who plays very well and has talented individuals. They will surely do their best to hinder our scudetto run. We’re also cognizant that the competition is harsher this year, as many teams have beefed up their rosters with class players. Even when you play relegation battlers you can get stuck in a bad day at the office”, he continued.
“However, we are confident in our qualities, our game play, and we must win this third consecutive scudetto. Last year we accomplished many positive things from the scudetto with Juve and qualifying for Brazil 2014. The aim for 2014 is to continue to do well to ensure that it be a memorable year”, he concluded.
Bonucci has 1 goal, 3 assists in 20 appearances (all competitions) for Juventus in 2013-14.
