Juventus defeated Sassuolo 2-0 away from home at the Mapei Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Gonzalo Higuain and Sami Khedira goals led the way for the bianconeri victory. After the match, Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon spoke to Mediaset Premium.
Buffon celebrated his 39th birthday on Saturday, but has made it clear that he still has the desire to play. The storied goalkeeper made a double save in the match today to preserve the lead. Buffon said that’s simply what he’s there to do.
“As I always say, I’m there for that [to make saves],” Buffon said. “I still have the ambition to play for Juventus. I have to keep going. There are moments when you have to give important messages and I think today is just one of those moments.”
Juventus led Roma for first place by only a single point, but the giallorossi lost 3-2 to Sampdoria. Juve now holds a four point lead for first place with a game in-hand. Buffon said he focused on only his team and giving his best when asked what he thought about Roma’s loss.
“I didn’t even know they [Roma] were playing at three [p.m.],” Buffon said. “At times you have to be concentrated to give your all do as best as possible.”
The Italian keeper answered the question of what he thought about the 4-2-3-1 formation that his team used today. He said that he saw quality with the attack and congratulated the team on its sacrifice.
“I see that with the forwards, with so much quality and with this attitude, the formation is perfect,” Buffon said. “Congratulations to them for today’s match. They always give a great example of sacrifice.”
