The Bianconeri have been linked for what now seems like ages for the French midfielder from Olympique Lyonnais.
We saw it in the Champions League group stage matches when Juventus played OL. Corentin Tolisso is a major prospect player who has the potential to join the growing list of elite France internationals. Oddly enough, he’s yet to feature for the senior France side, but has dominated the U-21 level. This begs the question, why is Juventus interested in him in the first place.
He’s a ‘modern #8 box-to-box’ midfielder, France football expert Sylvain Kolli told Italian Football Daily. A powerful player who has been consistently developing into a strong player. He also has a sight for goal, as he’s found the back of the net eight times in all competitions this season. For Allegri’s changing systems, Tolisso could be useful for any formation the coach decides to use.
Juventus have been missing a gear this season in their play. The results, for the most part have been there but they haven’t appeared to reach full song even now in February. It’s a worrisome sign in the post-Pogba world that the club has simply lost it’s physical edge in the midfield. But the change to include Mario Mandzukic on the left flag has seemingly put some more muscle in the Juventus scheme, but that cannot be a permanent fix, right?
That’s where Tolisso comes in and could really change the game for the evolving midfield. Claudio Marchisio, Miralem Pjanic and Sami Khedira are not physical players and are not usually double marked. When Andrea Pirlo and Paul Pogba ruled the Juve midfield, you could guarantee that the opposition paid more attention to them. That’s not to disrespect or discredit the current trio at Allegri’s disposal. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Juventus are at the moment six points up over second place with a game in hand. They also won their Champions League group and are still in the Coppa Italia. By all accounts, this season has been a roaring success up until this point. But we all know what the team’s true ambition is; to win the UEFA Champions League.
Corentin Tolisso, should he arrive in the summer, would give the club a different dynamic that has been lacking for some time. He’s a player that is set to take flight, and could do so at a club that has cultivated some major French talents over the years. Zidane, Platini and yes, Pogba, all come to mind.
