Kalidou Koulibaly remained with Napoli as the summer transfer window closed despite heavy interest from Chelsea.
Reports earlier in the summer said that drama had spurred from the defender and his agent’s comments. The comments made it seem like Koulibaly’s relationship with Napoli was damaged and that he was on the way out.
The Senegal defender visited a children’s hospital in Dakar, Senegal recently, and he clarified where he stands with Napoli. The online edition of Il Mattino reported Koulibaly’s comments:
“I decided to stay because I feel good on this team. I know that when I decide to leave, I can do it without problems. A penalty of 30,000 euros for my statements? Many things were written, but it’s not true. I have a good relationship with Napoli’s management.”
Chelsea wanted to buy Koulibaly to reinforce their defense and they had strong interest in doing so. Tuttomercatoweb reports that the strong interest still remains even after the transfer window has come to a conclusion.
Kalidou Koulibaly remains a very important part to Napoli’s defense. Napoli could not afford to lose the defender and staved off even the likes of a Premier League club like Chelsea. He will remain with the partenopei for the time being.
