The ex-Parma manager reveals his disappointment in being shown door by the Crociati after a string of disappointing results.
Dropped points, mediocre performances and falling to 7th in Lega Pro’s Girone B, Parma made the decision to clean house and give manager Luigi Apolloni his walking papers. A season removed from cruising through Serie D undefeated, expectations were high for Parma to navigate a competitive group and claim back-to-back promotions to move up to Serie B next year. However, after losing at home to another group favorite, Venezia, and a humiliating home loss to Padova, Parma’s management needed to steer the ship back on track. The decision was taken to shake things up on the sidelines.
Following yesterday’s press conference at the Centro Sportivo Collecchio, Apolloni expressed his surprise at the dismissal in an interview with La Gazzetta di Parma:
I was not expecting the firing, even if the situation was not great and we all know that in football, things happens. The club has every right to make its own assessments and choices. I am disappointed but life goes on.
