The Red Devils are eyeing another signing, this time in defense.
ESPN released a report that Manchester United were interested in Bonucci of Juventus or Rafael Varane of Real Madrid. The report goes on to claim that United even asked about his availability in the process of negotiating for Pogba.
Reporter Miguel Delaney stated that “United themselves are wary of getting into more protracted negotiations with Juventus. And at the same time, sources say Bonucci is now much more reluctant to leave Turin than he was earlier in the summer.”
Juventus value Leonardo Bonucci in a much different way than they did with Paul Pogba. There was an opportunity to make more money off one player than to win Champions League itself and they took it. Also, it would be much easier to find a replacement for a dynamic midfielder like Pogba than it would be to find a defender like Bonucci.
Although the backbone of Juventus is ageing, with Buffon, Barzagli and Chiellini far into their thirties, they still are arguably the world’s best defensive structure in the world. Bonucci being the youngest and possessing an incredible vision of the game means that his price tag may just be truly ‘unsellable’.
