The Uruguayan defender is set to move to the Italian capital.
An ex-Juventus defender and Uruguay international, Caceres is set to be a vital reinforcement for Simone Inzaghi’s roster. After injuries and poor decisions set his career on a downward trajectory, Caceres rebuilt himself in the northeastern part of the country and is now set for a move to a big club.
With his arrival also comes the confirmation that Stefan De Vrij will likely leave the club in a big money move at the end of the season. It’s difficult to find a like-for-like replacement in January, but this move should cover the bases until the end of the season when Lazio can develop a true search for a top defender.
The 30-year old defender has been a key figure for Verona this season and has 75 international caps with Uruguay to boast. For Hellas, the move will be an economical boost given they signed him for free in August.
Also not out of the question is a move for Milan Badelj, who’s contract expires at the end of the season with Fiorentina. The Biancocelesti could make a move for the Croatian now or wait to sign him on a Bosman in July.
