The public prosecutor of Cremona heading operation “Last Bet” Roberto Di Martino talked about the match fixing investigation that erupted on December 17.
“This is an investigation like all others. Gattuso is one of hundreds investigated: he’s at the margins of the investigation, but it behooves us to investigate fully in order to rule him out completely”, Di Martino told Repubblica.it.
He also added that he is a fan of Gattuso’s: “I like him, I was a fan of his during the World Cup, but I would have done a disservice to my profession if I excused him or treated him any differently due to my personal view of him. In Gattuso’s case there are some coincidences that merit a deeper analysis and investigation”.
Di Martino admitted that he still watches football, however he tells of something curious that occurred while watching Milan-Ajax last week: “When I heard that Abbiati was coming off and that Coppola [currently investigated] was warming up, I shut the TV off”.
