Match Preview: The Azzurri Look To Get Back On Track Vs. Israel

Getty Images

After a very embarrassing loss in Madrid on Saturday, Gian PieroVentura’s Azzurri team look to get back on track against Israel on Tuesday, a team that they should have no problem beating.

After being utterly dominated and ending the 56-match unbeaten streak in qualifying matches, this Azzurri side needs to re-group quickly and move on to the next important matches, prepping themselves for the most likely 2nd place playoff matchup in a few months. However, Ventura’s men need to gain momentum and start playing the football that the Nazionale are capable of.

Probable XI

After going with the dreadful 4-2-4 against Spain at the Santiago Bernabeu and getting exposed at that by Isco and co, Ventura is reportedly going back with the formation against Israel at the Mapei Stadium on Tuesday.

Italia:(4-2-4) Donnarumma; Darmian, Barzagli, Rugani, Zappacosta; De Rossi, Verratti; Candreva, Belotti, Immobile, Insigne.

18-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma may replace Buffon in goal. Spinazzola picked up an injury in the match against Spain, which saw Chelsea new boy Davide Zappacosta get called up, as he will fill in on the right side with Darmian shifting over. With Giorgio Chiellini injured and Leonardo Bonucci suspended, Daniele Rugani will step in with veteran Andrea Barzagli. In attack, it looks Immobile and Belotti will pair up once again, to hopefully find the net.

Israel:(4-3-3) Glazer; Bitton, Haim, Tzedek, Davidzada; Kabha, Ohana, Cohen; Melikson, Zahavi, Chaim.

Players To Watch:

Marco Verratti:

After a lackluster effort in Madrid, look for the PSG superstar to step up in the midfield. The world class midfielder didn’t fare well against Isco on Saturday, but will look to contribute and secure a win in Reggio Emilia on Tuesday night.

Davide Zappacosta:

The new Chelsea man will look to impress the fans of his new club and coach Giampiero Ventura, probably filling in on the right flank. Having earned a cap with Ventura back in the winter, he will look to shine again and show his “Zambrotta” qualities.
